Imperial Bedroom

In my opinion, the only good thing about this time of year is the availability of good grapefruits. I hate everything else--especially my skin, which is dry and cracked and sore and horrible. Last week I went shopping to cheer myself up (fortified with grapefruit) and happened upon the Kiehl's counter at my local Saks. I love a lot of Kiehls products, especially their Imperial eye cream, which looks for all the world like fancy-ass Vaseline, but does wonders for the undereye (their AVOCADO eye cream is good for those of you under 40. I hope you are using eye cream whatever your age. Or you'll be sorry. And, later, wrinkled.). Anyway, I think there must be such a thing as shopping roofies, since I got home to find I'd spent $42 on a large (it only comes in large, actually) pot of Kiehl's Imperial Body Balm. I think it's called "imperial" because only inbred European royalty would spend that kind of cash on her ashy legs. But I gave it a try and it is worth every penny. We are talking day-long softness, people. Even in winter, even on skin as winter-gross as mine was: elbows, shins, hands, everything. I am officially addicted--it even made my nails grow faster, I think. Find a Kiehl's counter and ask them to give you a sample of this stuff. I still think it's too expensive, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

Could you tell us which cucumber eye cream you are referencing? I looked on the website, and wasn't sure which one you meant.

Thank you!

Hi Kate, the reason you can't find it is because I am an idiot--I meant their Avocado Eye Cream. Both vegetables, duh. Anyway, here it is: http://www.kiehls.com/_us/_en/face/eye-area-preparations/creamy-eye-treatment-with-avocado.htm I'm gonna post about this one and the Imperial one next week because they are the GREATEST.

Hi! I *LOVE* your blog, but this is the first time that I've commented. I've bought many products on your suggestions and haven't been disappointed once. I have a question, though...I am 40+ and am VERY tempted by this expensive cream because I also have winter alligator skin at the moment. I, however, am a sucker for scents...any thoughts/description on what this cream smells like? I will definitely go check it out, but was hungry for more info before I can make it to a Kiehl's counter.

Many, many thanks,
Lara in Austin

Lara, this cream definitely has a fragrance but it is hard to define. Almost a soft, slightly spicy fig smell. Not floral. A man could use it with no problem. It dissipates quickly, too. You can always hit up the Kiehl's counter for a sample before you buy. If they don't have little readymade jars to give you they will fill a sample jar because they are great about that. And this stuff is so rich, a little jar will last you a couple of days.

I'm ridiculously excited that you'll be posting on eye creams. Can't wait, thank you!

Also looking forward to the eye cream posting. Checked out Kiehl's site, and am overwhelmed by the number of products. I have no problem spending extra on a product that yields results. I've always been diligent about skincare; fyi to the younger crowd, it pays off later.

I know this is entirely less fun than pretty creams with delicious ingredients, but: I've been using Pond's cold cream as moisturizer, and it's totally transformed my dry, flaky face! I apply just a little to a slightly damp face, morning and night. In the morning, I follow with a moisturizer with sunscreen, and at night, I take an extra bit for under the eyes and neck. My skin has never looked better, and I love how classic it is--- makes me feel like Bette Davis in All About Eve!

Thanks for the tip. I was hunting for some Carol's Daughter, but I'll try the Imperial Bedroom. Besides -- you can't go wrong with the name.

Well, surprise. I caved. Bought imperial and the eye cream and while I was at it the coriander and eucalytus shower gels.

If you order from Kiehls website, go thru ebates to get 6% cashback and check out Kiehl's shipping deal.

I caved too --out of my deep respect for Apocalypstick.

Besides, I spent 43 freakin dollars for body cream. It's bound to be wonderful ;-)

I promise you that this is the best body cream you have ever ever ever used. See what it does to your elbows alone, which are always the most disgustingly dry parts of your body, just the first day. So worth the money!
